Swiss German Courses - in Zürich

Would you like to understand your everyday environment in German-speaking Switzerland when people speak Swiss German – or rather ‘Schwiizertüütsch’? Take a Swiss German course with us.

Swiss-German is spoken by approximately 5 million Swiss people, i.e. almost two-thirds of the Swiss population. ‘’Swiss German’’ is a collective term for the dialects spoken in German-speaking Switzerland. Almost every canton has its own dialect. As such, there is Züritüütsch, Bärndütsch, Baseldytsch, etc.

Although every German-speaking Swiss person understands High German, many Swiss people appreciate being able to speak in a dialect when dealing with foreigners living in Switzerland. At the professional language centre, you will learn to understand Swiss German, and you may even have the goal to be able to speak a few sentences in dialect yourself.

Beginners and Advanced courses

Do you come from Germany or do you have another native language? Wouldn't you like to be able to understand your neighbors, colleagues or business partners in German-speaking Switzerland when they speak Swiss German - or "Schwyzertüütsch"? Although the dialects of the individual cantons are quite different from each other, a person from Basel usually understands a person from Bern and a person from Zurich understands a person from Grisons very well. Our course instructors teach mainly Zurich German, but they also point out the most important differences between the dialects and you train your hearing with interesting and varied listening texts - dialogues between neighbors, work colleagues, friends, in the family, etc.

Of course, at the same time you will learn cultural peculiarities of the German-speaking Swiss, rules of conduct, do's and don'ts in dealing with the Swiss. Would you like to simply understand the Swiss in their native language or do you dare to try Schwyzertüütsch yourself? Choose the appropriate course - we will be happy to advise you.

You need to have at least B2 level in German to participate in these courses.
