Learn Swahili as a foreign language. Take a course with us!
Swahili, also known as Kiswahili, is a Bantu language and the most widely spoken language in East Africa. It is estimated that Swahili is spoken by approximately 80 to 100 million people. It is the lingua franca of Tanzania, Kenya, large parts of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Swahili is also the only African language included in the official languages of the African Union.
In today’s world, Swahili is used in offices, schools as well as in the mass media.
The status of Swahili as a lingua franca in the regions of East and Central Africa makes it a language worth learning. For example, if your aim is to establish or maintain business contacts with these regions. Your business partners will definitely be impressed!
Perhaps you are planning a trip to Africa in the near future and would like to enrich your personal experience with more than what is offered when you book a package holiday. Talk to the locals in their own language and let them tell you about their country and its fascinating history.
Is Swahili difficult?
The good news is that Swahili is one of the least complicated of the African languages. It is considered a relatively easy language to learn with simple phonetics and word pronunciation. Swahili is a phonetic language which means that the word representation corresponds exactly to the pronunciation. Additionally, it does not have a complicated vocabulary and the words of this language are quite easy to memorise and master. The grammar is also rather simple. This is because Swahili has no gender-specific pronouns. Learning the tenses of the verb and verb forms is also easier. Despite these obvious advantages, learning Swahili becomes ineffective when you don’t invest a reasonable amount of time and effort.
