The Spanish are considered the fastest speakers in the world. No other native speakers fire out as many syllables per second on average as they do. More than half a billion people speak Spanish daily or regularly. In 2019, the Instituto Cervantes - something like Germany's Goethe Institute - counted about 480 million native speakers and 100 million foreign and second language speakers. Spanish is the official language in 21 nations around the world. However, it is not Spain itself that has the most Spanish-speaking inhabitants, but Mexico. There, about 130 million people speak the language.
