Around 90 to 105 million people worldwide speak German as their native mother tongue. Most of them live in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but also in Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, East Belgium, South Tyrol, Lorraine and Northern Schleswig. A large number of dialects are spoken in the German-speaking world. However, in language courses, foreign speakers learn the standard language, namely High German.
German is a particularly rich language. Because you can combine nouns together, as in ‘’ conscientious objector’’ or ‘’World Cup opening match’’, the German vocabulary is vast. Learn the language of poets and thinkers like Schiller, Goethe and Dürenmatt at the professional language centre.
